An absolutely gorgeous Winchester Basing Room wedding on a slightly grey and damp February afternoon as Tyanni & Alice tied the knot. Outside it might have been overcast, but inside it was all smiles, laughter and sunshine.
One of the things I particularly enjoy with a same sex wedding is that there is often a different approach to the arrival and the walk down the aisle. Alice & Tyanni had chosen to both make their own entrance, Alice first and then Tyanni to follow. They had kept things traditional by getting ready separately and avoiding seeing each other before that ‘first look’ moment, so this meant a canny bit of timing and hiding away from each other as the pre-ceremony interviews took place. Fortunately with a Winchester Basing Room wedding this is made much easier by the number of little rooms and hiding spaces dotted around the beautiful building.
Post-ceremony we ducked quickly outside for confetti before returning to the lobby for group photos (another advantage with a Winchester Basing Room wedding: indoor options for group photos on a damp day!) and then I kept our newly married couple back for some photos of just the two of them as friends and family headed across the road to the Westgate for afternoon drinks before the rest of the day’s celebrations were to begin. As well as being extremely handy for the Registry Office, the Westgate is also a very nice pub, especially since it’s recent refurb – I’ve been in there with plenty of wedding parties in the past, either side of the ceremony.
And then down to the lovely Corner House on North Walls – sadly now closed. A shame – it was a fab little cafe bar, and such a perfect place for a smaller wedding party to celebrate (although actually I’ve been there a few times when they’ve managed to squeeze significantly larger groups in there too!). Always a delightful, cosy and intimate space, it had once again been decorated beautifully; everything that our two brides deserved on this wonderful wedding day.
Huge congratulations to you both, Alice & Tyanni, and wishing you many very happy years together!
