Spring is a stunning season for a Sopley Mill wedding. Everything just starts bursting into life everywhere you look, and if you’re lucky enough to pick the kind of day that Becky & Ruari had for theirs you’re going to be spoiled rotten by the absolute magic of the evening light when it washes in over the water meadows as that sunset approaches.
What a gorgeous wedding then, and what an absolutely beautiful couple. I loved the whole look, the whole feel of this day the second I walked into the bridal prep room at the White Buck in nearby Burley. (Very nice location for a stay and for getting ready by the way – I’ve been here a few times and it’s lovely). Vintage, vintage, vintage… the hair and make up was just awesome (kudos to Pearls Pin Up Parlour [hair] and Dolly’s Beauty Parlour [make up] on a excellent job!) and you just knew that this was going to be one very cool wedding….
…backed up by the full kilt-and-accessories Ruari and his best man / brother were rocking when I arrived at the mill to nab a few early photos before it all began in earnest. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love seeing a kilt at a wedding. If you’re currently planning your wedding and doubt there’s going to be one on show get out and make some Scottish friends pronto!
A wonderful ceremony, full of real emotion and a lot of very happy smiles. And then out and into that stunning Spring sunshine (it felt more like Summer really) for the very well-earned celebrations. As I said at the start, Sopley Mill really is something else when the season is in full flow and that gorgeous light washes across it all. You can see it on the faces of all the guests as you look around; all just soaking up being in such a beautiful, relaxing, self-contained little world of happiness. Kick back on the lawns, put your feet up and just enjoy it. (If you’re feeling particularly energetic perhaps indulge in a little giant Jenga or a swing of a croquet mallet). Bliss.
Wedding breakfast eaten, speeches made, and with the fabled golden hour approaching we were able to steal over the rusty iron bridge (I so love that bridge, the gift that never stops giving when it comes to Sopley Mill wedding photos) to the water meadows for some couple portraits, and then slowly wind our way back ready for the evening party to begin in earnest. And of course it was a total party – I mean, just look at these two. Don’t you just wish you’d been there too?!
Fab, fab day. I’ve been fortunate to photograph at Sopley Mill on many occasions and every one has been beautiful and unique. Becky & Ruari’s so totally was too and it’s one, now I look back at the photos again, that I know I’ll remember fondly for a long time. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will too!
Huge congratulations to an absolutely awesome couple and, and wishing you many very happy years together.
