An absolute peach of a day for this lovely couple’s wedding at Oakley Hall. The contrast with Jess & Rob’s pre-wedding shoot a couple of months earlier in some extremely soggy bluebell woods couldn’t have been starker. Still I’d rather have it this way round, especially when you’ve got a venue like this with acres of superb grounds and gardens to play with.
Jess was up at the far end of these grounds, overlooking the fields beyond, in the very sweet Garden Cottage, a separate private house on the estate which means that you can squirrel all of your bridal party away up there, with no risk of spoilers on the dress front when guests start to arrive back at the main building.
There are various options for your ceremony at Oakley Hall, different sizes and styles depending on your number of guests. The room Jess & Rob had opted for was the largest, and leads straight into the main entrance hall on the one side, with views out over the gardens on the other. Everyone was ushered in just in time for Jess to pull up at the front of the hotel (when you’re getting ready at a house 250m from your ceremony venue fine-tuning your timings is a pretty straightforward matter!). It’s a really lovely ceremony room, so light and airy, and with a couple of very handy access points at each end and a cheeky corner to hider myself around I can tuck myself right away and really fade into the background while still covering all the angles. Love it.
Out into that gorgeous Summer sunshine for confetti, drinks and canapes on the terrace (and a bit of a play on the big old tree swing), and then some group photos either side of the hotel (gardens at the back for the big group shot, and then round to the front for a bit of shade and some privacy for the smaller family photos). And as people started to make their way towards the marquee for a barbecue wedding breakfast (nice!) I whisked our bride and groom away for a few quick photos in some of the further and quieter corners of the grounds. There’s so much to work with here, especially at the height of summer when the trees and flowers are in full bloom and the cornfields beyond are golden yellow.
And just to cap it all, that beautiful golden hour light and a belter of a sunset, before we hit the marquee again for cake cutting and dancing…
Massive congratulations Jess & Rob on an absolutely beautiful day and it was such a pleasure to be there and capture it all for you. Wishing you many, very happy years together!
