Day two of Kathryn & Pete’s wedding saw us at the Twyford church of St Mary’s before strolling in the sunshine across the water meadows and along the river to a reception at Shawford Parish Hall. Missed the photos from day one? You can check out that part of the blog post right here…
After the informality and intimacy of day one of Kathryn & Peter’s wedding weekend, day two was a much larger affair with friends of the couple joining family members in the villages of Shawford and Twyford, just to the south of Winchester. The main focus of the day was a church blessing at beautiful St Mary’s, before a wander across the water meadows for an evening’s celebration at Shawford’s village hall.
Back to yesterday’s base camp for bridal prep but this time with a rather fuller house (and a bigger dress). Extra bridesmaids on hand today to help with the finishing touches there, while Pete and groomsmen brought the hall up to speed ready for the reception. And then we headed on round to Twyford church – St Mary’s – where Kathryn would soon see her husband for the second first time this weekend… (A particularly nice touch, having already legally married the day before: bride and groom walked down the aisle together at the start of the ceremony).
While not needing to fulfil any legal requirements on this occasion, the blessing followed the structure of a traditional church wedding – a very beautiful occasion in a very attractive church. The interior of Twyford Church up at the altar is particularly lovely, but perhaps the most charming part of the day followed immediately after as friends and family processed back across the meadows and along the river to Shawford, where the reception was taking place. (The champagne station near the start was a particularly good touch, as was the little quiz set up at staging posts along the route). The weather was absolutely gorgeous – quintessential English summer sunshine with blue skies and fluffy clouds. Heavenly.
Back to the village hall, and I’m once again reminded how many wonderful village halls there are locally and how well they can serve as reception venues. To their credit, Pete and the guys had clearly been working extremely hard to pull it all together. It was definitely worth it. Plenty of drinks and laughter in the sunshine, beautiful and funny speeches including a particularly touching one from the mother of the bride. Plus excellent dancefloor action with music courtesy of the superb Still Moving DJs, who I hadn’t seen before but am very keen to see again at future weddings!
What an absolutely amazing weekend, and what a celebration Kathryn & Peter put on for all their friends and family. It was all so relaxed and fun, and was very clearly simply about a young couple in love. Perfect. Many congratulations to you both, and wishing you many very happy years together!

The images above and from the Day One post are just a small selection (a very small selection, in fact – believe me, we were not short of photos from this weekend!) from the full set which friends and family can find in Kathryn & Peter’s gallery. But you’ll need to ask them for the password first.
