There really aren’t many venues which can match magnificent Avington Park for jaw-dropping beauty and grandeur. I’m very proud to be a recommended photographer at this wonderful venue and have been privileged to capture many incredible weddings her in recent years. It ally has so much to recommend it that it’s hard to know where to begin; from the beauty of the ballroom to the immaculately maintained gardens and the stunning Hampshire countryside beyond. There are just so many options and ways to really personalise your wedding here and truly make it your own. And with the incredible accommodation offerings available to extend the magic every Avington Park wedding I’ve seen really has been one to remember.

Overview:

An absolute dream of a venue, the house at Avington Park sits in the heart of a beautiful parkland estate just outside Winchester, on the edge of the South Downs national park. It’s quite simply stunning both inside and out. Having undergone a major refurbishment in recent years it radiates quiet luxury and pure quality of experience. This is a venue which absolutely has the wow factor, and then some!

Beautiful formal reception rooms include the mirrored ballroom which is often used for ceremonies, the library and orangery for wedding breakfasts, and the large, pillared hall downstairs (with huge roaring fire for those colder Winter wedding days). Outside the beautiful gardens extend in every direction, with views out over the lake, along the river Itchen, or back towards the open countryside and farmland behind. There are so man options and ways to accommodate your wedding, from smaller and more intimate affairs to huge celebrations spilling out onto the lawns.

Photo Opportunities:

Where to begin? As an Avington Park Wedding Photographer I could simply never tire of taking photographs here, and although there are definitely some signature shots it’s worth being sure to capture, every time I return I find new angles, backdrops and set-ups.

The sheer beauty of the house itself when viewed from the front just can’t be ignored. Factor in the most iconic of couple portraits in front of the main entrance with the columned portico as your backdrop. The long, tree-lined avenue, the wrought iron bridge spanning the river, and the fields in front of the lake (often with horses galloping around) can all be accommodated as part of a short stroll, snatching a few moments to yourselves away from your guests at the same time.

Moving indoors, the entrance hall is a great option for group photos on damper days (or indeed on any day; I think it’s too good a space not to use). The incredible mirrored ballroom – often used as the ceremony room – makes a real statement and is particularly suited to a more formal style of portrait or group photograph. The staircase shot from above as the couple make their exit…. The list goes on and on. Oh, and if fortune smiles on you there might just be a peacock proudly showing off in the background.

Practicalities:

Following a major refurbishment the house boasts a large number of accommodation options in the form of self-contained apartments, each with an abundance of character and charm, and offering views in every direction across the magnificent grounds.

There is plenty of other accommodation available locally with Winchester’s many hotels to the West, and in the other direction the charming small market town of Alresford. Avington Park is very easy to reach, just a couple of miles from Winchester (with mainline train) and the M3, and just an hour from London.

Other Observations:

The estate offers its guests a wealth of leisure activities and country pursuits, taking advantage of the gorgeous rolling Hampshire countryside which surrounds it, the crystal waters of the river Itchen which runs through the grounds, and its own private lake. Looking for something to keep you occupied in the morning before the ceremony? Bring your golf clubs and squeeze in a quick nine holes at the wonderful little Avington Park Golf Course.
